To our wonderful community,

It is with great joy that I welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year!  We have a lot of positive momentum to continue as well as exciting new changes in store for us. Our amazing staff started back this week feeling rejuvenated and immediately dug in with learning and planning together.

As many of you know, we are an EL Education partner school, and we are excited to continue this wonderful work this year. Through EL Education content-based literacy, our students are challenged in complex reading and meaningful tasks and activities. Students are collaborating through text-based discussion and meaningful play.  We are loving the conversations and collaboration that students are engaging in with this wonderful resource.

This year, an exciting addition to our EL work will be implementing Crew.  This whole school initiative is a strong structure for developing relationships that support students socially, emotionally, and academically.  It is designed to bring our community together, promote shared understanding, acceptance, a “growth mindset”, and joy.  This year we will empower our students to be crew, not passengers, in this journey of school.

Another exciting change for our Dutch Creek community is the addition of a preschool in our building. We understand the importance of early education and are looking forward to capturing this important stage of development. Our preschool is a beautiful space with brand-new furniture and materials right inside our own building. The new preschool team has completely jumped on board with our team and are looking forward to partnering with our staff in all the wonderful work we do.

Finally, I am excited to introduce myself and my new role at Dutch Creek. For those of you who are unfamiliar with me, I have been a 4th and 5th-grade teacher at Dutch Creek for many years.  As a past student of Ken Caryl Middle School and a Columbine High School graduate, I have a special place in my heart for this community. In fact, I began my career with my very first teaching job at Dutch Creek Elementary 15 years ago. Aside from teaching intermediate grades here, I was also an instructional coach and math content specialist, working with many schools throughout Jeffco. While I learned a lot in this part of my career, I found myself continually comparing schools to Dutch Creek. There is truly no place like it. I am constantly impressed by the entire staff at this amazing school and their undying commitment for each and every student who walks through our doors.  So it is with great pride that I get to introduce myself as the new leader of the school that I love.

I look forward to partnering with you all. I can’t wait to see what amazing things this school year will bring us. Hang on tight….it’s going to be an adventure!
