October Newsletter
Dear Dutch Creek Community,
It is with a very happy heart that I write this community letter. Fall is absolutely my favorite season. The weather is beautiful, the school year is off to a great start, and of course, there is football! I find so much joy each morning and afternoon as I see the many families walking, biking, and riding scooters to school. Let’s soak up this beautiful Colorado season before it changes!
This year, our staff has started a new tradition called “Workout Wednesdays”! Perhaps you have noticed the casual and athletic clothing worn by our staff CREW each Wednesday. To be honest, it was an idea from another elementary school, and our staff members loved it. We challenge each other to get outside and be active each Wednesday. Several teachers have taken their student CREW circles outside to be active, and you will see many of our teachers out on walks during their lunchtime. As we practice our own self-care here at Dutch Creek, I encourage you to try a themed day at home too! There is a community challenge coming up in October: Move to School Day.
Wednesday, October 9th is Move to School Day. This annual event encourages students to walk, bike, and roll to school. It’s perfect…it falls on a “Workout Wednesday”! Help us increase physical activity and kindness to the earth by moving to school without your car!
A celebration I would like to highlight again is our community garden. Thanks to PTSA and other parent volunteers, we had a fall harvest celebration. Students ate fresh watermelon, created bouquets to put in vases, and colored to celebrate this fall harvest. Students and community members harvested squash, tomatoes, pumpkins, green beans, carrots, and more. It is hard to believe that only months ago, the garden beds had only small sprouts of life, and now kids were standing under towering flowers and picking green beans as long as their arms.
I want to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who worked over the summer to ensure the garden stayed watered, weeded, and pruned. Thank you for this time and effort in making this garden such a success…it sure puts my home garden to shame! And thank you for helping create something beautiful and helpful for our entire community. If you have not had a chance, I encourage you to visit our garden and enjoy. All are welcome!
Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to a wonderful fall with you and your child(ren).
Warmly,
Sara Oliver
